757 Angels mission is two-fold:
- To help grow and diversify the economy by supporting promising new and early stage companies.
- To provide 757 Angel Members a risk-adjusted financial return on their investment capital.
THE CASE FOR CHANGE
- Virginia had the third slowest growth rate in the country in 2013 with 30,000 fewer jobs than 2007.
- 41% of the Hampton Roads economy is dependent on military spending with the potential of further sequestration cuts.
- Hampton Roads is ranked 302 out of 382 metropolitan areas in employment growth since the end of the “Great Recession”.
GROW JOBS AND DIVERSIFY THE ECONOMY
With a stated goal to enhance regional economic competitiveness, the Hampton Roads Community Foundation began a multi-phase process in 2013. The first phase was the establishment of four study groups to do a deeper dive into critical ingredients to a stronger regional economy including entrepreneurship, workforce development, clusters and leadership.
The Entrepreneurship Study Group’s mission was to develop implementable initiatives that will lead to a stronger and more supportive entrepreneurial environment for starting and growing businesses in Hampton Roads.
757 Angels is staffed by a highly-experienced Executive Director capable of vetting local potential investment opportunities and selecting quality companies to present to our Members. The Executive Director’s and her assistant’s work may be supplemented with free intern labor provided by regional colleges and universities.
